In today’s episode, MissSnowfox and Momo are joined by Amphigoury, Altocello, and Brolinskeep to talk about fanart! This is the first part of a two-parter (because we have a lot more to talk about than we thought……..), and it includes some “definition” of different types of fanart, talking about resources, and airing a whole list of grievances and pet-peeves surrounding the treatment of fanart and artists in fandom.
The episode is just under 2.5h long, which is honestly a miracle job of editing work by Rox because none of us can shut up.

It’s not just fanart that gets stolen. When I posted pictures Merlin filming, people would take off my watermarks and post it as their own. It was f**king annoying. It’s so much worse for the artists.
As for tumblr and reblogging, I always thought that liking it was fine and that the artist would be happy about that. I had no idea that reblogging meant so much. I’ll have to rethink my reblogging behavior (I wanted my tumblr to be my photos alone so that’s why I wasn’t reblogging).
As for collabs, I was so thrilled that texasfandoodler agreed to do the art for my Big Bang and it’s still my favorite story because of her art. It’s so sad that she died so young and it makes me both sad and happy to look at her work.
Big bang is a problem for how little time they give artists. I did enjoy Reverse big bang because the art was done first and then the writers got to write about it.
I’ve never asked an artist if I could write a fic about their art. I’m always too shy and worry that I’m stepping on their creative toes. I’ll have to rethink that, too.
