  1. FYI, in researching Gaius’s robes (which were fabulous, btw), physicians often wore long robes in that ‘time period’ so I could see why Edwin would wear one. Even the younger physicians wore them.

Other than that, I always forget about this episode, too. There is lots of meat there but it’s not put together in a way that is exciting and makes sense.

  2. My main thing with this episode is this is the first of Merlin’s real kills. Like, with Mary it was with a chandelier and not a freaking axe through the face. I wish Merlin had a bit more of a reaction to killing someone in such a gruesome way like…. yikes.

  3. I would like to react to the claim that canon AUs tend to not have happy endings. I don’t know what kind of canon AUs you’re reading, but most of those that I read do have a merthur happy ending. 😀 And there’s a lot of those that have fluff (well, mostly fluff and angst). But maybe you’re talking strictly canon? Because when I talk about canon AUs, I mean canon era as a whole, including canon divergent stuff.

  4. As for Edwin in modern AU fics, he’s pictured very differently to canon in those. If he’s meant to be creepy ex then yes, he’s still creepy and awful, but he can also be written as a character not corrupted by the purge and then it’s up to author whether they’ll make him turn bad or let him be neutral or good.

(And then Momo pretty much said the same thing at the end of the episode… 😀 )

    Gaius/Geoffrey (or Google/Wikipedia) is definitely canon. 😀

Arthur not knowing where Edwin resides didn’t feel all that weird. Arthur is the crown prince. He doesn’t really have to care about lodgings of the royal guests. He has staff for that. 🙂
